Bophelo Mpofu

Mrs Mpofu, one of the students in this class, will very shortly be travelling to the United States, accompanying her 8-year old daughter Bophelo who is going to have reconstructive surgery to treat devastating burns she received in 2003.

The treatment is being provided free of charge by the Shriners Childrens Hospital (Specialist Burns Unit) in Boston, Massachussetts. British Airways have now stepped in to sponsor two return tickets, so travel is covered. However the Mpofu family needs to raise funds for the cost of living for several months in America.

Bophelo has a web-site where you can read more details. Donations can be made to a Botswana bank account number (details on her site). The people of Maun, her home town, have been rallying round, and you can see some of the very generous donations by Maun firms and individuals. If you are overseas, at present you could only donate by making an electronic funds transfer to that account. However once they arrive in Boston it will hopefully be possible to donate by deposit to an American bank account number. Watch for updates.
